CMW’s Youth Short Video Contest

What is this contest about?

Coalition of Muslim Women (CMW) is inviting all Waterloo Region Youths from ages 14-25 to participate in a short video contest.

The contest is aimed to commemorate January 29, which is the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec Mosque Attack and National Day of Action Against Islamophobia.

THEME: “Islamophobia: Impacts / Action”

What are the Prizes?

1st Prize: $300 cash + Certificate

2nd Prize: $250 + Certificate

3rd Prize: $150 + Certificate

When is the last date to submit entries?

January 15, 2024 (To be submitted on the Google form linked below)

What are the rules of the contest/ How to submit your entry?

  1. The video should in 1 minute to 2.5 minute long (max)

2. The video should be uploaded to a private link on YouTube with an aspect ration of 16:8.

3. The link should be submitted / filled out in the contest entry form here ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 15, 2024: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IDD6uz1qeJCipXBTenseIX5WXutMvDT5vMVk3gVfaMw/edit

4. Entries submitted after January 15, 2024, will not be considered.

5. The video should have both audio and visual elements.

6. The video should depict/showcase:

A. Impacts of Islamophobia experienced by Muslims,

B. OR Recommend actions to counter Islamophobia,

C. OR both.

D. OR Participants may depict the intersectional OR gendered nature of Islamophobia too.

7. The video can be in the form of a music video, monologue, dialogue, skit, short film, mini-documentary, reel, satire, comedy, poem, musical performance, etc.

8. If the video uses stock/ royalty-free images or music files, they should be duly credited in the video description.

9. The video should NOT contain offensive, graphic, or explicit content.

10. The video can be produced by 1 or 2 individuals (max), both who should be between ages 14-25

11. All participants are invited to attend CMW’s program on January 29, which is the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec Mosque Attack and National Day of Action Against Islamophobia. Winners will be announced at this event. Winning entries will be screened at the event. Details of the event will be sent to all participants.

12. CMW reserves the right to exercise its discretion in selecting the winners or to disqualify ineligible entries.
