Towards Violence Free Homes

Funded by Canadian Women’s Foundation and KW Community Foundation, Towards Violence Free Homes (TVFH) is a culturally integrative, multi-lingual GBV-focused outreach program in Waterloo Region. TVFHC utilizes multi-lingual peers to conduct pro-active outreach to isolated Muslim women, providing them with knowledge, skills, information, connections, and resources to prevent and address GBV at homes. TVFHC has served 600+ women since September 2020 . Below are the activities conducted under TVFH:
- Outreach to isolated women and their families to prevent / respond to family violence situations involving spouses and / or teens and their parents in English, Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Panjabi, Somali, Tigrinya, Turkish and Urdu / Hindi using peer workers
- 1-1 and small group sessions on topics like stress management, parenting during pandemic, child abuse, domestic violence, and healthy relationships.
- Community education and awareness-raising activities about violence and abuse in families, with a focus on involving and engaging men and youth
- Formal and informal conflict coaching and mediation support for families
